Biography

Bateleur is a six-piece band from Cape Town, South Africa. The band consists of Dean Berger (drums), Adam Bertscher (guitar), Odie Human (trumpet), Paul Mesarcik (bass), Louis Pienaar (piano) and Nicolaas van Reenen (guitar and vocals). Their music is mostly instrumental, as they find it difficult to find words they can all agree on. Agreeing on melodies is easier than on perspectives about life and love, they might argue.

Bateleur as it plays today was formed in January 2010. Their first EP, "Mountain", released in mid-2010, was met with glee. The appreciation of a significant newcomer to the South African music scene was apparent. They have since been asked to perform at every major gig venue in Cape Town, at art exhibitions and at private events, such as the Shnit Film Festival (co-hosted by Cape Town and Berne, Switzerland). Their music has also been used for soundtracks on film productions. Bateleur recorded their first music video, "Thanks, India", in September 2010.

The members of Bateleur believe in the free-spirited democratic creation of music for the love of it. They derive their inspiration from the musicians they admire, walks, and conversation about nothing at all.
